The concept of time travel has always permeated the fabric
of the science fiction realm. Many a tale has flourished through the ages. In
the form of books, radio shows, and movies.
Why is it so appealing?
Let’s just think about it. How many times have we mumbled to
ourselves… “Wish I had lived back in those day instead…” Or “If I could only go
back and save Lincoln…” Or “Wonder how technology is going to be in the year
3000…” Or “If only I could go into the future to find out who the winner will
be in the Kentucky Derby…”
Such is the fascinating concept of time travel. The incredible
things you can do if you can master the workings of time. And various authors through history have
recognized this addictive fascination. Mark Twain had a Connecticut Yankee go
back to King Arthur’s time. H.G. Wells had the hero travel into the terrifying
future. Ray Bradbury had a bunch of rich hunters to go back in time to hunt the
mighty T. Rex. Even Stephen King had the hero travel back in time to save
President Kennedy.
I remember growing up with the Irwin Allen classic “Time
Tunnel” on TV. I was so enthralled with all the history lessons that I got from
watching the show! And of course there was Buck Rogers falling asleep and
waking up in the 25th Century.
And who can forget the “Back To The Future” series, the “Terminator”
series, and…
Well I better stop now and continue my Time Travel
fascination ramble another time. For now, let me present a few “time travel”
related Old Time Radio shows for your enjoyment…
From the South African Science Fiction old time radio
series, SF 68 comes SOUND OF THUNDER…
From X MINUS 1 comes this classic tale from Clifford Simak “Project
Mastadon”
And from the popular ESCAPE Old Time Radio series, comes the
H.G. Wells’ classic “Time Machine”
